Managing AdWords AND Bing Ads? New Functionality Streamlines Both

Anyone who has worked with Optmyzr knows our innovative platform has greatly streamlined and automated Pay-Per-Click campaign management for Google AdWords. Many marketers who work with our innovative PPC Management Software have seen significant improvements in campaign performance and agency profitability.

We now offer much of that same automation to support Bing Ads management for agency and in-house marketers alike. PPC pros can tap the power of machine learning and artificial intelligence to help make Bing Ads accounts more effective and profitable – much the same way they use Optmyzr for AdWords.

Specific features rolled out for Bing Ad management include an intuitive UI that brings together key PPC management tools in one package:

  • Budget and KPI monitoring: Marketers have access to powerful visualizations and alerts to track and manage against key metrics, such as conversions, return on ad spend (ROAS) and cost per conversion.
  • Ability to find new keywords and create single keyword ad groups (SKAGS): Optmyzr’s intuitive Keyword Lasso tool allows One-Click Optimization™, which automates analysis of search terms and identifies higher performing search queries. Previously only available to support AdWords accounts, the Keyword Lasso now allows the same ability to identify optimal keywords and create new ad groups that support SKAG ad group structures.
  • New ad creation in A/B testing: Optmyzr now extends ad creation and A/B testing for Bing Ads management. Marketers benefit from automated suggestions for ad content based on what has worked in campaigns.
  • Hour-of-week performance optimization: A new Hour of Week Bidder for Bing gives PPC pros recommended hourly bid adjustments, based on conversion and cost goals as well as other variables. Ad schedules can be changed in bulk, giving marketers greater ability to turn off ads when they are not needed.
  • Search term N-grams for Bing: This tool allows marketers to gain quick insight into long-tail search behaviors, helping to minimize wasted spend and improve results by unearthing words (N-grams) that lead to wasted spend.
  • Landing page analysis: PPC pros can now benefit from aggregated performance data for landing pages across Bing campaigns. This helps understand which pages perform well and gives insight into improvements that can be made to landing pages that have low conversion rates.
  • Geo HeatMap analysis: Optmyzr now brings powerful visualizations of Bing Ads geo data via an interactive heatmap. Marketers can tap this information to analyze traffic and conversions based on location, allowing more strategic budget allocation right down to the city level.
  • The above mentioned features are available to try out in Optmyzr. Use this link to access tools for Bing Ads accounts.

Our developers have enhanced marketers’ abilities to optimize Google AdWords campaigns over the last several years. Of course, Google still dominates the PPC landscape, but Bing has gained market share for six consecutive years. As a result, many marketers now manage similar campaigns across both platforms. Our objective is to help marketers improve efficiency and profitability of their overall PPC initiatives.

Stay tuned for additional Bing-specific functionality as we move through 2018. We are working on additional ways marketers can extend instant optimizations and gain quick insights into their PPC programs.

How Templated PPC Reports Save Time

One of the things we do best at Optmyzr is help PPC experts save time at the tasks they need to do to keep accounts healthy, and clients happy. Reusable templates in our reporting system are one of the ways our tools can help you save a ton of time. Unfortunately I see a lot of customers who don’t take advantage of the full power of our templates so let me explain why we created our system this way and how you can benefit.

What is a PPC Report Template

A template is a predefined layout into which content will be placed. For PPC reports, a template defines a few things:

    Report Template.png

So in a reporting tool, one template is usually created for every report that needs to be sent on a recurring basis. In the example above, the template defines what needs to go into the report. Then when our reporting engine generates the report at the start of every month, it knows what data to grab and how to present it, so a nice report comes out, and is automatically delivered to the client.

Maintaining Individual Reports For Each Account Wastes Time

We have many agency customers at Optmyzr and they all manage multiple clients. Many reporting tools require 1 template be created for each end client, even if they all need to receive a report based on the exact same layout and template.

Creating this many templates is a pain, and having to update all of them with the exact same change when AdWords adds a new reporting metric is an even bigger pain.

How Optmyzr Report Templates Save Time

Luckily agencies typically have several clients who are similar, for example a few may do lead-gen and some others ecommerce. Lead-gen advertisers usually track metrics like CPA, conversions, and conversion rate. Ecommerce advertisers normally care more about metrics like ROAS and conversion value.

In Optmyzr, we let agencies take advantage of those similarities by making it possible to create templates that can be used for multiple clients. So instead of creating one template per client, you can make one template per type of client. In our example, that means we can have 2 templates: one for lead-gen and one for ecommerce and all 10 clients can get their reports based on these two templates.

lead gen vs ecommerce ppc report template.png

So now when an Optmyzr agency wants to add a new metric to all the reports for their ecommerce clients, they just update that in one place, and all their ecommerce clients immediately benefit from those changes. It’s a huge time saver for the agency, and a win for the client because their account manager can now focus on more strategic work rather than spend the whole day tweaking tons of templates.

How Optmyzr Makes Templated Reports Highly Custom

Agency clients usually won’t be happy if you give them a report that is clearly off-the-shelf. Optmyzr templates can be customized with lots of data visualizations so every agency can include exactly the types of data their clients will benefit from. If you haven’t tried our reporting, you can get your first beautiful PPC report in less than 5 minutes by signing up for our 2-week free trial.

In addition to including the data that matters, Optmyzr’s templated reports are very custom because for every client you can include their name, logo, a custom footer, and different campaigns in the report.

    Client 1.png

So structurally the reports for all ecommerce clients will be the same, but the data and visuals are all custom for each client.

    Same Template for Different Advertisers.png

Now each client gets a report that is custom to their business but the agency spent a fraction of the time building and maintaining the underlying report templates. And to take customization another step further, the agency could now annotate each of the resulting reports with notes, take-aways and follow up action items for each client. The beauty is that because the report itself was easier to generate, the account managers and analysts will have more time to spend analyzing the data and strategizing about the account.

    Conclusion

If you’re looking to save some time with a quick win, give templated reports in Optmyzr a try. By reducing the number of templates you have to maintain, you’ll make things simpler and you won’t lose any functionality. If you have ideas for how to make our reports better, please let us know.

    #4 – New Report Templates

We have a brand new Annual Report that you can use to instantly generate a year-end review. Go ahead and customize it or share it as is with your stakeholders to show them how awesome you are at PPC 🙂 Pro Tip: Duplicate the template and change the date range to last month to create a monthly report 🙂

10 Optmyzr Reporting Features You Don’t Want To Miss

    1.Multiple Date Range Options

Most reporting tools only give you the option to add one or two date range options in reports. With Optmyzr’s report designer you can include as many date range options as you want in a single report. These can be absolute or relative date ranges so you can automatically schedule reports. For example, you can have data for last month, month before last, last month last year in the same report.

    Date and Campaign Selector

    2. Campaign, Label and Account level Reporting

We understand that if you’re using labels in AdWords, you want to be able to report on them. In the report designer, you have the option to report at the account, campaign and label level. What makes this feature really cool is that you can have all three levels in the same report. For example, you can compare performance of your branded and non-branded campaigns or one category of products with another in the same report. Also, if you want to use labels for reporting but don’t want to create them in AdWords, you can use Optmyzr labels.

    3. Navigator in Report Designer and PDF Reports

This is probably one of our most hidden features 🙂 While creating a report in the report designer, you can navigate between the different sections of the report using the report navigator on the right side. You can also change the position of different sections in the report by simply dragging and dropping them. The report navigator is available in the actual report when you share the report as a PDF as well as when you share it as a link.

    Report Navigator

    4. Create Reporting Dashboards

Our Pro plan users can share links to reports and they can now also schedule links to be updated on a schedule. This helps you create a reporting dashboard that can be updated on a schedule (every day, every week or every month) and you can also see the last 10 reports on the link.

    Creating Dashboards

    5. Include Image Ads in Reports

When you’re running image ads in an account you want to be able to actually show the image ads in the report instead of just names. The Top Image Ads widget in the report designer lets you do exactly that. You can show the top image ads by cost or traffic in the report. If you share a link to the report, you can also show ads with animation!

    6. Custom Filters for Google Analytics

Custom filters in the Google Analytics widgets make it easy to report on very specific data. For example, you can only show data for the traffic you received from Facebook or, only include Analytics data for certain campaigns in your AdWords account. For more details on how to set up custom filters, read this article.

    GA Custom Filters

    7. Date Range Insertion

If you’re scheduling reports, it is essential to be able to automatically insert the correct date. You can automatically insert dates using the date range insertion feature in any text box in the report. What makes this feature really cool is that you can insert the date in any format. For example, you can choose to display the date like September 1 – September 30, 2015 or just September 2015. Read more about the different date formats here.

    8. Segment Performance in a Single Chart

Compare performance across different segments (campaigns, ad groups, networks, devices) of your AdWords account in a single chart using the Segment Line Chart widget. This widget works with campaign level labels so you can see the performance for all campaigns under a given label on the same chart. You can also see how a single product category is performing on different devices.

    Segment Line Chart

    9. Include External Data

To make sure you can include data from different sources, we have the Image Box widget that lets you insert screenshots. You can take a screenshot of the chart or table you would like to include in the report and insert it in the template.

    10. Margin Up for Cost Data

This feature lets you mark up the cost related data in a report by a certain percentage. This feature is available in Optmyzr’s Report Designer and can be selectively enabled in accounts. Please feel free to send us an email on support@optmyzr.com if you would like to enable it on your account.

Don’t Send AdWords Reports Before Google’s Data Is Complete

Sending reports of AdWords results to clients is one of the more time consuming tasks agencies deal with so it’s not surprising that our scheduled reports are one of the more popular tools in Optmyzr. So for everyone using our scheduled reports, here’s a big mistake to avoid: don’t send your reports before the data is locked in!

The mistake we see is that agencies report too soon after the month ends which may lead some metrics to be incomplete for the simple reason that it takes time for AdWords and Analytics (GA) to publish all the data to advertisers’ accounts.

For example, did you know that Impression Share data won’t be ready until 13 hours after the day ends! Even click and impression data can take 3 hours to be completely posted to your account. AdWords sheds some light on reporting delays here. When it comes to conversion data from GA that is imported to AdWords, this can take up to 3 days.

    [Source: Google.com, May 2015][1]
    Source: Google.com, May 2015

Because you don’t want to report incomplete data to your clients, we recommend sending monthly reports no sooner than the 2nd of the month, and no sooner than the 4th if you include goals from GA.

Weekly reports (for weeks ending Sunday) should be sent no sooner than Tuesday morning or Thursday morning if you include GA data.

You get the picture… it takes time for AdWords and GA to get the data ready so keep this in mind when deciding when to send your reports to clients or stakeholders. Review and edit all your own scheduled reports in Optmyzr.

Account & Template – Report Logos

We recently added more functionality to the logo feature in the Report Designer that makes the report templates easier to use across accounts. You can now save logos separately at the AdWords account and report template level. If there is a logo at the account level, it will override the default template logo if any. For example, as an agency you can save your company’s logo at the template level and the customer logo at the AdWords account level.

    Still using static AdWords reports?

Static AdWords reports limit the amount of information you can include or, you run the risk of including so much data that the reports become overwhelming. We recently launched a new way to share reports that makes them interactive. You can now generate a link to the report and share it with users.

The report is no longer static as in a PDF and you can hover over charts and graphs to see data points. For example, if you notice a sudden drop in clicks on a particular day you can hover over that particular point and see the exact number without having to log in to your AdWords account.

Instant data gratification: Hover over charts to see actual data at different points without having to log in to your AdWords account
Get more granular data: Zoom in to widgets to go a level deeper. For example, if the Geo HeatMap in your report is at the country level, this format will let you zoom in and see data at the city level without having to generate another report.

    Interactive Reports - Blog Post

Steps to generate a link for the report:

    1. Click on the report you want to generate a link for on this page in your Optmyzr account.
    2. In the report, select Create Link from the Report Actions drop down.
    3. Copy and share the link.

    InteractiveReportsBlogPost

Tip: You can use the Share a Link option with the new commenting feature we launched. Using the two features together will let you share a link to the report with your comments.

    Customize AdWords Reports With Comments

After creating AdWords reports, account managers spend a lot of time adding observations that help their customers make sense of the data. We understand that the commentary that goes with the reports is as important as the reports themselves. To make this easy for our users, we’ve added a comment feature to reports. You can now add comments to reports after they have been generated and then download the report as a PDF, email it or share a link with the comments intact.

How is this feature different from the text widget in the report designer?

The text widget lets you add text while creating the report in the report designer. This works when you want to include text that will remain consistent each time the report is generated. To record observations that are specific to a particular month or week, the comments feature is more useful because the comments don’t become part of the report template. They are specific to that report and you don’t have to edit the template each time.

To use this feature, follow these steps:

    1. Click on the report you want to add comments to on this page in your Optmyzr account
    2. In the report, hover on top of any widget and it’ll show you a highlighted box to add comments
    3. After adding comments, download the report as a PDF, email it as a PDF or, share a link to the report

We’re adding a feature that will let you save the reports with comments in your Optmyzr account. You can edit the comments later or, maintain a history of your observations for future reference.

    Blog-Comments in Reports

This feature is available in the Pro and Enterprise plans. Also, available on the old Gold plan.

Time Interval Options in Graphs – Daily, Weekly, Monthly

One of the highlights of Optmyzr’s report designer is that you have the option to include multiple date ranges in the same report. For example, when creating a monthly performance report you can include a graph to show how account performance has changed over the last six months. In the same report, you can include data broken down by day for the month.

To make it easier to show data for long periods of time, we updated the Time-wise trends chart (earlier daily trends chart) to include an option to specify the time interval. Now you can choose the level at which you want to show the data in the chart – daily, monthly, weekly.

Sometimes data at the daily level can be too noisy to show trends or performance over a longer period of time like three or six months. In this case choosing the option to show data at weekly or monthly level helps.

    Updates To Our Reporting Tools

We just made a few changes to the Custom Report designer based on some popular requests from our customers.

You can now delete unused campaign pickers and date range pickers.

    [Delete Campaign And Date Pickers][1]
You can now remove any date range pickers and campaign pickers you’re not using for custom AdWords reports.

We’ll only let you delete pickers that are not used by any reporting widgets, otherwise you’ll get an error like this:

    [Error When Deleting A Picker][2]
If a date range picker or campaign picker is needed by a reporting widget, you won’t be allowed to delete it until you remove it from all widgets that use it.

     We Enhanced The Widget Picker

It was sometimes a bit hard to find the right widget to include in reports so we’ve grouped them and are now sorting them alphabetically in each group. To allow us to keep adding new widgets without running out of space, you can now collapse and expand the groups. For those using smaller screens, we added a scroll bar so you’ll always be able to get to any widget, no matter how far down the list it is.

Here’s what the new widget picker looks like:

We’ve reorganized our reporting widgets to make it easier to find the one you’re looking for.

Advanced Features For AdWords Reports in Optmyzr

In this blog post we’ll cover some advanced features in Optmyzr’s Custom Report Designer that are unique and can help make your life easier when creating AdWords reports. Discover them below:

    Automatic Date Range Insertion

Just like keyword insertion in AdWords, you can automatically insert dates in the text fields from the date range selectors. To insert the date from Date Range Selector 1, insert {DR1} in the text field and it will automatically insert the exact date. For more advanced and customized date range insertion, read this article.

    Campaign and Label Level Reporting

This is a feature that we really like for the data insights it can give. Optmyzr makes it easy to create AdWords reports for individual campaigns as well as a group of campaigns or labels. What makes it even better is that you can segment this data by device and network. For example, you can see how non-branded campaigns perform on the search network vs. branded campaigns. You can use labels from your AdWords account or, create new labels in Optmyzr. In the example below, the label ‘Search Campaigns’ is selected in the pie-chart widget. The widget in the report shows how the label (all the campaigns under it) performs on different devices.

    Favorite Report Templates

We understand that users build different templates for different accounts. To make it easier for you to get to the templates that are important for an account we have the Favorite Templates feature. AdWords Reports in Other Languages

When we started Optmyzr we didn’t imagine that in less than a year we would have customers in more than 50 countries using our tools 🙂 To better service our non-English speaking customers, we recently launched the option to translate reports in other languages. This is the first step we’ve taken towards localizing our tools for non-English speaking markets. This feature is still in beta and we would love to get feedback! Currently, the reports are available in the following languages:

    1. English
    2. Deutsch
    3. French
    4. Nederlands
    5. Italiano
    6. Espanol
    7. Brazilian Portuguese
    8. Hungarian
    9. Polish

You can request support for a new language here.

    How does this work?

    1. When you load a report, you’ll see an option to select a language from the drop down at the top.
    2. Expand this, and you’ll see a list of languages that are currently available from which you can pick one.
    3. If your language is not there in the list, click on ‘Request support for another language’ and let us know your requirements.
    4. The option to change the language is also available in the preview mode.

    Report Beautification

We really appreciate all our users feedback as it helps us prioritize what features to build next. Last week we got this funny tweet from Andrew McGarry:

    optmyzr-reports-tweet

Not that we’re that much into golfing but we don’t like being below par so we set out to improve the look of our reports. Here’s what we launched a few days after Andrew’s tweet…

To make it easier for you to get to the templates that are important for an account we have the Favorite Templates feature. You can mark a template as favorite at the AdWords account level in Optmyzr and it wil start showing at the top. The advantage is when you’re managing a lot of accounts, you don’t have to go through a big list to pick a template each time.Favorites -Advanced features-BlogPost Want to try out Optmyzr’s Custom Report Designer?

Colored arrows in the KPI widget to make it easier to see metrics that are doing well or poorly:

[Instantly see KPIs that are doing well or poorly based on the red and green color coded arrows.][3]
Instantly see KPIs that are doing well or poorly based on the red and green color coded arrows.

Nicer presentation of tables. Now we only show horizontal lines and we make the header row bold to make them easier to read:

    [tables-before][4]
This is what tables looked like before the redesign.
[This is the new look for tables in reports.][5]

A different background color to make reports pop a bit more:

[The new background in reports makes the pages pop more visually on screen.][6]

We also just launched a display ads widget so now you can see the actual image ad in your reports:

We’ve got a few more beautifications up our sleeve but let us know your ideas for how to make them more visually pleasing.

Andrew tweeted us again later and had this to say:

    Users Love Optmyzr

    Thanks Andrew!
