About the customer

US Digital Marketing is a specialist paid search agency with offices in North Chicago and Southwest Milwaukee. President Jim Bilello has been a Google Agency Partner for more than a decade and has used Optmyzr for nearly as long.

The agency works with a few dozen clients, primarily small lead-generation businesses in the $2–5 million revenue range. Rather than trying to be a full-service agency, Jim and his team specialize in paid search and work alongside their clients' SEO, web development, and other marketing partners.

That specialization is paired with an emphasis on transparency. Clients pay the ad platforms directly, can see their actual Google Ads accounts, and receive regular reporting that helps them understand not just what happened, but why.

The challenge: delivering high-touch PPC management without getting buried in manual work

When Jim looks back at how the agency managed accounts roughly a decade ago, one task stands out: reporting. The team was manually assembling reports with screenshots to show clients what was happening in their accounts.

“There’s got to be a better way. We can’t be manually constructing reports.”

As the agency managed more clients, the problem extended beyond reporting. The team needed a practical way to monitor performance, investigate changes, plan spend, and make informed decisions without turning every task into another spreadsheet or hours of manual analysis.

For Jim, the goal was to remove enough repetitive work that his team could spend its time interpreting what the data truly meant.

The solution

1. Automated reporting that supports better client conversations

Reporting remains one of the foundations of US Digital Marketing's Optmyzr workflow. Jim schedules reports to go out alongside client invoices because he believes clients should immediately be able to see what they received in return for their investment.

Reports can be adapted by date range, delivered interactively or as PDFs, sent to multiple recipients, and paired with a message encouraging clients to discuss the results with the team. That conversation matters because metrics such as search impression share, click-through rate, and search terms often need context before they become useful to a business owner.

"You give much better service, and I understand better what's working and what's not."

For Jim, Optmyzr provides the reporting foundation that helps the agency deliver that level of transparency and service without manually rebuilding the same information every month.

2. PPC Investigator turns performance changes into questions worth investigating

When something changes in an account, Jim uses PPC Investigator to get beyond the top-level movement in a KPI and examine the possible root cause. A drop in conversions, for example, becomes more useful when the team can see which audience, device, demographic, or other segment contributed to the change.

The insight is then a starting point for deeper strategic thinking. If a particular demographic is suddenly underperforming on mobile, the question is not simply whether to reduce traffic from that group. Jim may investigate mobile site speed, audience strategy, landing pages, or another underlying issue.

"It is like a diagnostic tool at a pretty high level."

Jim compares the process to an MRI: Optmyzr helps surface what is happening, while the PPC practitioner still needs the expertise to interpret the result and decide what to do next.

3. Budget tools replace assumptions with projections

Jim also uses Optmyzr's budget management and Spend Projection tools when clients are deciding where additional budget should go. Recently, a long-standing ecommerce client was considering putting more money into a Performance Max campaign. Rather than estimating the impact manually, Jim used Optmyzr to evaluate how additional spend could affect conversion value across campaigns.

That gave him a clearer basis for recommending where the next dollar should go.

"Now I don't have to guess based on a complex Google ecosystem. I've got the history. Optmyzr's got the history."

Jim will sometimes walk clients through the Optmyzr screen itself, making the reasoning behind a recommendation visible instead of asking them to simply take the agency's word for it. For him, that visibility also strengthens the agency's credibility.

4. Thousands of hours reclaimed for higher-value work

Across reporting, analysis, budgeting, and optimization, Jim estimates that Optmyzr has saved the agency thousands of hours. The value of those hours goes beyond completing the same PPC tasks faster.

It gives the team more room to investigate why performance moved, understand what is happening elsewhere in the customer journey, and apply their own knowledge of Google Ads before deciding what should change.

"You still have to be the expert to know how to control the tool."

That distinction is central to how US Digital Marketing operates: automate the repetitive parts, but keep the practitioner responsible for interpretation and strategy.

5. MCP brings connected PPC data into Jim's AI workflow

Jim had already been experimenting heavily with AI, feeding tools screenshots, files, and exports to provide enough context for useful analysis. Then, while reading Frederick Vallaeys' The AI Amplified Marketer, he came across Model Context Protocol and wondered whether Optmyzr already supported it. It did.

"Instead of feeding it all these screenshots, it's got my accounts that are connected. Let's just ask it these questions and try and give it as much context as I can."

For Jim, that was the natural next step in a workflow he had already been building: giving AI better access to the information it needs without repeatedly exporting data or assembling context manually. He has since started using the MCP when investigating client account problems, bringing Optmyzr's connected account context directly into those conversations.

His philosophy around it is the same one he applies to the rest of PPC automation: use the technology aggressively, but do not remove the expert from the process.

The results

For US Digital Marketing, Optmyzr has become part of how a lean specialist agency provides hands-on service across a few dozen client accounts.

• Thousands of hours saved: Reporting, analysis, and routine account work no longer require the same level of repetitive manual effort.

• More strategic account analysis: PPC Investigator helps the team move from "what changed?" toward the root causes and business questions behind performance shifts.

• Better-supported budget decisions: Historical data and projections give Jim a clearer way to recommend where additional budget is most likely to make an impact.

• Greater client transparency: Automated reporting and visual account analysis make it easier to show clients what is happening and explain the reasoning behind recommendations.

• Less manual AI context-building: With Optmyzr MCP, Jim can work with connected PPC account information without repeatedly assembling screenshots and exports for his AI tools.

For Jim, the common thread is time. The more repetitive work Optmyzr can take off the team's plate, the more time they can spend on the part that still requires a PPC practitioner.

Parting words

Jim is optimistic about AI's role in PPC, but he does not see it as a replacement for expertise. His preferred way to describe the future is simple.

"AI automation, yeah, with expert human guidance. That's it."

Technology can make practitioners faster, give them access to more information, and take repetitive work out of their day. But someone still needs to understand the client, the account, and what the data is actually saying.

For US Digital Marketing, that combination of automation and human judgment is exactly the point.
